Architecture

The place we gather for worship is important. We want to make our worship space beautiful thanks to God, who provides all the beauty around us. The clergy will conduct church tours to explain the significance of the architectural elements.

Studion Ministries

Fr. Justin of St. Catherine's Monastery in the Sinai will be presenting his digitized drawings and photographs of a small chapel at the back of the Monastery. In addition, Paidea Classics will be providing a photo display of an architectural technique developed to create replicas of that Chapel. All proceeds will benefit non-profit Studion Ministries.

Paideia Classics--Elizabeth Davis

Father Justin of Sinai has prepared scans of his own hand-drawn plans of his favorite 1000+-year-old chapel located on the back side of Mount Sinai. Using these plans, Elizabeth Davis has been building a replica of the chapel (shown here) using a very simple, inexpensive building system she developed using cattle panels, rebar, t-posts, hardware cloth, tarp, and cement. She is building smaller structures using the same materials except with less cement and more earth plaster and cob. The method is basically sculpture but on a large scale. A photo demonstration of this process will be provided at the Festival. Its value is that it is possible to build a replica of an ancient chapel with little money and simple materials; Paideia Classics also will be providing these embroidered linens made by the Bedouins in the Sinai near St. Catherine's monastery. The icons shown here are carved in Slovakia, and samples will also be presented.
